A Tanzania-specific identity check against the NIDA National ID (NIN) (NIDA) is planned. Until it launches, you can verify people in Tanzania with document OCR, liveness and face match, which work with any passport, national ID or driver's licence photo.

Phone number format

Tanzania mobile numbers are written locally as 0712 345 678 and internationally as +255712345678. The leading 0 is a national prefix: we drop it when we add +255, so local-format numbers work if you also send the country.

Topping up your balance

Card payments and mobile money (M-Pesa, Tigo Pesa, Airtel Money, HaloPesa) in TZS, converted to your naira balance at the rate shown when you pay. Provider availability is set per country, and cards in US dollars are the fallback where a local-currency option is not open yet.

Data protection

Personal data in Tanzania is governed by the Personal Data Protection Act, 2022. Phone verification stores only a salted hash of each code; check your own obligations as the data controller.
